He was the patriarch of a highly respected Adair County, KY, family. He is survived by his wife, Loreta Ballou Adams and large extended family spanning. He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church and was retired from USDA Tobacco Division.

Jessie L. Adams age 77 years of Columbia, KY passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at 3:30amCT, at his home.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 4, 2014 at 1pmCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, with April Beard, Bro. Larry Lemmon and Don Neat the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Barnett's Creek Cemetery at Pellyton, KY. Visitation will be after 4pmCT, Saturday, May 3, 2014.

He was born on Wednesday, February 24, 1937 at Knifley, Adair County, KY. He was the son of the late Jessie Wilmer and Massadonia Elizabeth Shaw Adams. He died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Columbia, Adair County, KY, at the age of 77 years, 2 months, and 6 days.

He is survived by his wife, Loreta Ballou Adams, of Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • Three sons: Dean Adams & his wife Val of Columbia, KY; Randy Adams & his wife Susan of Somerset, KY; and J. W. Adams & his wife Sandy of Somerset, KY

  • Also Susan McCloud & her husband Mike of Bowling Green, KY; Sandy Conover & her late husband Brad Conover of Columbia, KY; Bruce Willis & his wife Shelia of Columbia, KY; Mary Keen & her husband Stephen of Columbia, KY; and Matthew Willis & his wife Keri of Columbia, KY

  • Two brothers: Travis Adams of Columbia, KY; and Kenneth Adams of Campbellsville, KY

  • One sister: Joyce Adams Blair of Columbia, KY. He was preceded in death by one sister Diana Elizabeth Lemmon

  • Twenty grandchildren

  • Seven great grandchildren

  • Several nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives and friends
He was a member of Columbia Baptist Church and was retired from USDA Tobacco Division.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice Green River or Gideon Bibles and may be left at the funeral home.
