CVE investigation of crane crash which closed LBN ongoing By Jared Newberry, Public Affairs Officer KY State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Region 2 Louisville, KY Kentucky State Police Post 15 Columbia, KY CVE (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement) division is investigating a crash that closed Eastbound lanes of the Cumberland Parkway in Metcalfe County, Monday, September 9, 2013, at approximately 9amCT. Preliminary investigation indicates a heavy duty crane being operated by Travis Gunn of Lanesville, IN, lost control near the 34 milepoint as he attempted to go downhill. The crane flipped over and slid approximately 160 feet down a rock embankment, trapping the driver. Due to the instability of the crane, extrication of the driver took over 3 hours. MetcalfeCounty Sheriff's Office,Barren/ Metcalf EMS, Metcalf Fire/Rescue, Summershade Fire/Rescue and the KY Transportation Cabinet assisted in the resue. Mr. Gunn was airlifted to the Univesity of Louisville Medical Center, Louisville, KY, in stable condition. Officer Randy Honeycutt is handling the crash investigation and it is currently on going.
