Click on headline for story with photo(s) By Duane Bonifer News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Mark Coleman has been named vice president of administration and finance of Lindsey Wilson College. Coleman replaces Roger Drake, who is leaving Lindsey Wilson to become the 26th president of Central Methodist (MO) University. "Mark is a bright person who stood out among a deep and talented pool of applicants," said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr. "He has a passion for the liberal arts, and he understands how higher education is evolving and Lindsey Wilson's place in the new landscape." Coleman comes to LWC from Cabarrus College of Health Sciences, where he was chief financial officer for the North Carolina school. At LWC, Coleman will help manage a $58 million budget that includes more than 385 faculty and staff. LWC enrolled a record 2,677 students in 2012-13. Coleman - who earned a bachelor's degree from Denison (Ohio) University and an MBA from Duke University - said he has a passion for liberal arts colleges. "My education at Denison University has allowed me to expand my career path as my interests and skills have evolved, making me a passionate believer in the value of a liberal arts education," he said. "Such an education taught me how to think and adapt while simultaneously broadening my perspective." Coleman said he was attracted to LWC because of its mission "to serve the educational needs of students by providing a living-learning environment within an atmosphere of active caring and Christian concern." "The LWC mission is very exciting to me because it it meshes nicely with my personal goals of learning every day and being a servant leader," he said. A cinema and philosophy major at Denison, Coleman has also worked in the film industry and for Wachovia Capital Markets. "My unconventional career path -- from film to corporate and investment banking to higher education -- illustrates what makes a liberal arts education so valuable and gratifying," he said. "At each stage of my diverse career, my liberal arts experience prepared me to excel in new subjects and skills and to bring an innovative perspective to each position that was welcomed and rewarded. "I am excited to take what I have learned both in the classroom and on the job to help Lindsey Wilson continue to thrive. For me, it is a way to pay forward the gift of my education to the next generation." Coleman and his wife, Maggie, have two sons: Gabe, 4; and Ty, 3. He said Columbia-Adair County's quality of life appealed to his family. "It is very evident that people love living here and take an immense amount of pride in the town and the college," he said.
