Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, District 4, Elizabethtown, KY

Elizabethtown, KY (February 25, 2012) - Preliminary work begins this week as Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract crews realign curves and resurface a section of US 31E near the Lincoln Boyhood Home in LaRue County.

A contract is awarded to Salsman Brothers, Incorporated of Bardstown which totals $2,194,656 worth of improvements, providing a safer and more efficient route through the corridor connecting Hodgenville and Bardstown, KY.

Signs are currently being installed near the project as crews prepare to lay cross drains beginning the week of March 10th. Cross drain work will begin at the location known locally as Enlow's Curve.

Work through the corridor will likely create congestion with regard to visitor traffic to the Lincoln Boyhood Home, especially through the summer months. Larger recreational vehicles and busses may experience additional challenges navigating the construction zone.

Motorists are urged to use additional caution when traveling US 31E between Hodgenville and New Haven and minimize driving distractions. Alternating one way traffic will be utilized throughout the project with the use of temporary signals. - Chris Jaggers The entire project is scheduled to be complete by September 1, 2013.
