The Gandy Dancers. And what's the history of RRs in Columbia, KY?

Charles Marshburn writes:
Has Columbia ever heard the songs of the Gandy Dancers or have I missed the railroad tracks in town? What is the story of the railroad in Columbia\'s history? --Charles Marshburn
Thanks. You raise a very topical issue. Which should be answered by one of our truly qualified historians. I only know these things: 1) We had a depot once on Reed Street. 2) The last serious ideas on building a railroad was from the late Hughes Walker, who noted that we could build it ourselves. It would be profitable, as I understand the freight line RR from Glasgow to Cave City is. We certainly need one. -EW
