Turnovers propel Belhaven past Lindsey Wilson, 35-7 Click on headline for complete story, photo(s) By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson College COLUMBIA, KY - Seven turnovers, including two interceptions returned for touchdowns, doomed Lindsey Wilson College in a 35-7 loss to Belhaven (Jackson, MS) on Saturday afternoon, October 20, 2012, at Blue Raider Stadium. The Blue Raiders and Blazers played evenly throughout the game with Belhaven leading in total yards just 305-294. Lindsey Wilson (2-6, 0-3 MSC West) even held a slight advantage in time of possession, but all the positives weren't enough to overcome the two costly turnovers. Branden Cresap completed 12-of-30 passes for 165 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. On the ground the Blue Raiders were led by Josh Haney with 29 yards on eight carries, while Matt Powers caught four passes for 99 yards. Blazer quarterback Alex Williams completed just 8-of-17 passes himself for 122 yards, but found two receivers in the end zone. Kylan Pollard caught both touchdowns in the second half, finishing with four catches for 71 yards. Belhaven (4-4, 3-1 MSC West) scored first on its third possession gained after a Tyrome Lott fumble at his own 22-yard line. Williams took off running on the first snap before a fortunate fumble gave him 13 yards after he recovered it at the nine. A Lindsey Wilson personal foul edged them even closer before Kadero Edley rushed for the score from one-yard out. The lead remained 7-0 heading into the second quarter before the first interception return came with 8:48 left before halftime. On the fifth play of a drive, Cresap looked for Chaz Barnes over the middle, but the pass was picked by Calvin Lewis who took the ball 54 yards for the score to lead 14-0. With less than four minutes on the clock in the second quarter, Lindsey Wilson had its best drive of the game. It started with Cresap finding Powers streaking down the field for a 45-yard catch. Now on Belhaven's 16-yard line, Cresap hit Emilio Gonzalez alone in the end zone on the next play to pull within seven. After forcing the Blazers to punt, Lindsey Wilson got the ball back and picked up two first downs to drive to its own 45-yard line with just seconds remaining in the half. Cresap looked deep to Powers once again, but the pass was picked off by Craig McDonald at the 15. The Blazers created a wall around McDonald and then he took off, using both sides of the field before ultimately crossing the goal line to put Belhaven up 21-7 at the half. Lindsey Wilson failed to score again in the game as it fumbled twice within five yards of the end zone. Belhaven took advantage as it found success through the air, finding Pollard twice in the end zone to seal the 35-7 win. - Dan White Lindsey Wilson Blue Raider football vs. Bluefield College of Bluefield, VA. 12pm noon CT on Saturday, October 27, 2012, at Mitchell Stadium, Stadium Driver Bluefield, West Virginia This story was posted on 2012-10-20 19:40:13
