(BARDSTOWN, KY) - On Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at approximately 7:30pmET, Tpr. Jonathan Downs stopped a vehicle on the Bluegrass Parkway near the 18 mile marker for doing 106 mph in a 70 mph zone. The suspect, Jason E. Aaron, 26, from Bardstown, failed to comply with Tpr. Downs instructions and resisted arrest. During the altercation and as Aaron resisted, Tpr. Downs suffered a significant injury to his left hand and thumb.

The Trooper then deployed his agency issued Taser on Aaron as he still continued to resist. Trooper Downs administered another cycle and the suspect finally complied. Aaron was charged with Assault 3rd, Resisting Arrest, Menacing, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Intoxicating Beverages 1st Offense, Speeding (106 in a 70), Careless Driving, Improper Lane Usage and lodged in the Nelson County Jail. Tpr. Downs was treated at Flaget Hospital and referred to a hand specialist for further treatment. The investigation is ongoing. - Norman Chaffins
