Campbellsville University to perform 'Hairspray' Play will be performed in both Campbellsville and Hodgenville, KY. Click on headline for complete story with names and hometowns of all participants in the play By Tanner Royalty News from Campbellsville University Theater Department CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Hairspray the musical is to be presented by Campbellsville University's theater department for Homecoming 2012 at Campbellsville University in the Russ Mobley Theater in the Alumni Building, located at 114 University Drive, Campbellsville, KY, Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 7pmET/6pmCT; Friday, October 12 at 8pmET/7pmCT; Saturday, October 13 at 8pmET/7pmCT, and Sunday, October 14, at 3pmET/2pmCT. The Department of Theater is also presenting the play at the Hodgenville Civic Center, 200 S. Lincoln Boulevard, Hodgenville, KY, at 7pmET/6pmCT, Friday-Saturday, October 26-27, 2012 and at 3pmET/2pmCT, Sunday, October 28, 2012. Admission is $5. The play is set in Baltimore in 1962 when teenagers Tracy Turnblad and her friend Penny Pingleton are watching the Corny Collins show, much to Tracy's mother Edna's dismay. After one of the stars of the show leaves, the chance to audition to dance on the show arrives, and Tracy quickly takes the opportunity. With the help of her friend Seaweed, Tracy makes it on the show, angering the evil dance queen Amber Von Tussel and her mother Velma. Tracy then decides that it's not fair that the African-American children can only dance on the Corny Collins Show once a month, and with the help of her friends and family she is going to integrate the show.
