Columbia City Council, report, Monday, October 1, 2012 meeting In the October 2012 regular Council Meeting
By Ed Waggener Three board members were recommended for re-appointment by Mayor Mark D. Harris and were unanimously approved at last night's regular monthly Columbia City Council Meeting, October 1, 2012. Evelyn Phelps was re-appointed to the the Housing Authority Board, unanimously, on a motion by Counicllor Jim Hadley seconded by Linda Waggener, with Councillors Robert Flowers, Jim Hadley and June Parson, joining in affirmation in a 5-0 voice vote. Councillor Tony Grider joined the council later in the meeting. Ms. Phelps new term expires May 30, 2016. Randall Pyles was reappointed to the Columbia/Adair County Tourism Board, unanimously, on a motion by Councillor Jim Hadley, seconded by Councillor Robert Flowers, with a 5-0 voice vote approving. His term new term expires October 7, 2015. Pam Hancock was reappointed to the Columbia/Adair County Tourism Board, unanimously, on a motion by Councillor June Parson, with a second by Robert Flowers, and was approved with a 5-0 voice vote. Her new term is set to expire October 7, 2015, as well. Nuisance law discussed at length The proposed nuisance law was discussed at length. Minutes approved unanimously Minutes for the September 4, 2012 regular meeting, September 10, 2012, special called meeting, and September 11, 2012 special called meeting were approved unanimously on 5-0 voice votes. Mayor's Comments Mayor Harris cited the accomplishments of the past two years, including, a recycling program initiation with pilot projects in some neighborhoods, the new Well Walk Sidewalk, new gas lines, work on the nuisance ordinance, and the line-by-line review of the budget. Councillor Comments: Mostly lengthy comments were made in the Councillor Comments section of the meeting:
Hunter Hadley leads pledge of allegiance Hunter Hadley led the pledge of allegiance which started the meeting. Attendance included all of the City Council and Candidates Dr. Ronald P. Rogers and Craig Lasley. Also present were Ron Cook, City Gas Department Superintendent, City Clerk Sonya Roy, Police Chief Jason Cross, City Attorney Marshall Loy, City Planning & Zoning member Roy Rademacher. and members of the press.
