COLUMBIA, Ky. -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's soccer team scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 win over visiting Cumberland University of Lebanon Tennessee, Tuesday evening, September 25, 2012, at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson climbs to the top of the Mid-South Conference standings at 3-0. The Blue Raiders join Georgetown College of Georgetown, KY -- also 3-0 in conference play -- as the only unbeaten teams remaining in the MSC.

Lindsey Wilson midfielder Mia Persson provided the game's only goal of the first half to give the No. 3 Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Persson netted her team-high seventh goal of the season into an empty net following a touch pass from Laerke Lillelund Michaelsen in the 13th minute to give Lindsey Wilson (6-2-1) the early lead. After receiving a pass from the right flank deep inside the penalty area, Michaelsen tapped the ball back to a charging Persson in order to avoid Cumberland goalkeeper Lindsay Kitson. The assist was Michaelsen's fourth of the season -- tied for the team lead.

Following the goal, both teams had chances to add to their score only to be turned away by the opposition's goalkeeper.

Kitson ended the night allowing a pair of Lindsey Wilson goals while collecting four saves -- three in the first half. Lindsey Wilson keeper Josephine Frigge recorded the shutout win while stopping both shots she faced.

After an 11-shot first half -- six from Lindsey Wilson and five from Cumberland -- the two teams combined for just four shots in the second half.

The Blue Raiders ended the night out-shooting the Bulldogs (7-2, 3-1 in the MSC) 9-6.

The game remained in doubt for nearly 89 minutes before Cecilia Ekstrand scored an insurance goal to give the Blue Raiders the 2-0 lead and ultimately the win.

Ekstrand ran onto a through ball from Persson and beat Kitson from just inside the penalty box to score her second goal of the season.

The win extends the Lindsey Wilson winning streak to four straight matches. - Chris Wells Next at home game
