Ever wonder what Agriculture teachers have done for county?

By Abby Royse

What have Agriculture teachers done for Adair County?
- Teacher-James Woody ran the cannery which fed thousands of people. This was before we had much electricity. Mr. Woody and Joe Janes went to Wisconsin some 60 years ago to buy Dairy breeding stock. Adair County now ranks number 2 in dairy in the state.

- Teacher-Vernie Vaught was first to use gas on tobacco beds. This saved on weed control in those plant beds.

- Teacher- Sammy Baker showed hundreds of students how to make money in the livestock and dairy business. Adair County is ranked in the top 5 in the state in livestock.

- Teachers and Judge--Teachers Sammy Baker, Mr. Terry Harvey and Judge Richard Walker brought the Greenhouse to our school at little cost to the school. The greenhouse is known as a reliable source of plants in our community.

- Teacher--Randy Rexroat was the first to bring float bed tobacco plants to Adair County--saving farmers money on labor and improving tobacco production.

- Teacher-Kirby Hancock worked many hours getting the school the new and very nice Agriculture barn used to work with community members' and students' livestock.
Has any other teaching position done this much to help Adair County's economy?

Sincerely,

-Abby Royse
Senior Adair County FFA member
