FFA student plans to be agricultural engineer

By Evan Shirley
Personal commentary of the writer

I am a FFA Member and have been for three years now. When I was a Freshman I planned my high school schedule so I could take all ag class and classes to get a college prep diploma.

I plan to be an agricultural engineer someday. Now I don't know what will happen, my plan may really be messed up. If the third ag teacher position is cut I may not be able to get the classes next year.

It aggravates me so bad that the adults who are making the decisions are not taking into consideration about how those of us who are students feel.

I have been an FFA officer for the past two years, I have competed in a lot of competitions. All these competitions have been a lot of fun and I've learned things from them and one of those things is that I can stand up and talk in front of a group.

FFA is the reason I love school.

FFA is the reason I don't mind making the rest of my classes part of my day!

Our economy has became a world economy but in these hard times it also important to know the basics of growing foods that we might need to feed our famililes with someday.

While being able to speak a few words of a foreign language may be great, but is that going to help me later on?

Where would we be without Farmers? Where would our community be without the taxes and money spent that was made by farming. I respectfully ask the adults making decisions about this to really think about what they are doing to kids like me.

Respectfully,
- Evan Shirley
