Kentucky Color - Bull Nettle

A terrible plant, he judges: If given the choice between falling into a patch of Bull Nettle or being shot with a 12 gauge shotgun at thirty paces, you got it, the shotgun is the only sane way to go. - BILLY JOE FUDGE

Here in the Great Wooded South this meanest of all plants has always been referred to as Bull Nettle. In actuality it is Carolina Horse Nettle but Bull Nettle more accurately suits its personality.

Bull Nettle is one really nasty plant. It has nettles on the leaves and on the stems. If given the choice between falling into a patch of Bull Nettle or being shot with a 12 gauge shotgun at thirty paces, you got it, the shotgun is the only sane way to go.

The tiny green tomato fruit is very poisonous to us humans. After they turn yellow they are considered to be less poisonous. I don't know how much difference there is between very poisonous and less poisonous but I'll leave that research to folks more adept at these things. - Billy Joe Fudge

This Honey Bee hanging out on a Bull Nettle flower
is the only creature of which I'm aware to have a good relationship with this terrible plant. Billy Joe Fudge
