Col. Wm. Casey School reaches out to West Liberty Elementary

Colonel Casey School is collecting school supplies to fill a trailer Danny Pyles is letting CWC use to transport donations to West Liberty before the sister school's re-opening on March 19, 2012

Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five links in between the two. Well, that theory has been reduced at Col. Wm. Casey this week.Anyone who knows or has worked with Dana Harvey, Title I Interventionist, at Col. Wm. Casey knows that she has a heart for reaching out to others. It only took minutes for her to realize once she heard about the tornados in our state to know that she had to reach out in some way.

She also has the talent for helping others to be a part of her visions as well. She contacted me the day after the storms tore through our state and said she didn't know exactly what we needed to do, but God had laid it on her heart that whatever it was, she needed to get about doing it.

That is where the theory of separation sets in. Dana's daughter Sarah Burton, who teaches kindergarten at CWC, is also a Thirty-One Gifts representative. She just happened to know another rep who lived in West Liberty. When she contacted her she learned that their school had been destroyed, but they were in the process of opening in an abandoned factory that was still there. That is where the plan went into action. Sarah and her friend talked, which lead to contacting the West Liberty Elementary principal and going from there. Naturally student and teaching supplies were a need due to all of their materials being destroyed. So, that is what the plan is for our school. We are helping teachers and students in another school rebuild and reopen.

We at Casey, who often have voiced our concern over the conditions of our building, find ourselves in a position to help others who have less than us with our abundance. We are blessed. We are also blessed to have a strong leader in Dana Harvey, leading the way for us. At this point there are several members of our staff planning to take a trailer full of materials to West Liberty prior to the school's re-opening date on March 19. A huge thanks to Danny Pyles for letting us use one of his trailers for the materials.

We invite others in the community to help as well. If you wish to make a donation of teaching and learning materials such as pencils, crayons, paper, glue, scissors, construction paper, pens, post-it notes, snacks, bottled water, etc., please feel free to bring them by Col. Wm. Casey Elementary, 220 Gen. John Adair Drive, Columbia, KY, any weekday, 7am-4pmCT. We will also be more than happy to accept and deliver monetary donations to help refurbish West Liberty Elementary. -PATTY JONES, Principal, Colonel Wm. Casey School, 220 Gen.
