Students made it work: $25,678 Net Energy Costs saved in 2012 Adair Co. School District receives 2 KEEPS energy awards Click on headline for story with photo(s) (Posting may still be in progress By Alan W. Reed The Adair County School District has recently received multiple awards in the Kentucky Energy and Efficiency Program for Schools (KEEPS). Student teams in the five schools helped implement the school district's action plan. The Kentucky School Management Program reports that compared to the 2009-2010 base-line, the Adair Count School District has saved $32,049 dollars in electricity costs, while natural gas bills have risen $6,371. Net savings are $25,678 so far according to Bill Gittings, Project Coordinator. Adair County shares Gitting's expertise through the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC). The plan called for turning off computers, lights, closely monitoring thermostats and shutting down refrigerators and vending machines during periods of inactivity. Adair Schools was honored with two KEEPS awards: 1) Stewardship Award and 2) Champion Award. The KEEPS program has helped the district make major cuts in its electricity bills since its inception in July 2011. According to Supt. Darrell Treece, the district's goal is to earn the coveted Leadership Award sometime this year. This story was posted on 2012-03-06 15:06:36
