Six year old girl dies of injuries suffered in 2-vehicle collision

Driver lost of control of vehicle, which enters wrong lane where vehicle struck by oncoming vehicle. A child in the vehicle pronounced deceased at Cumberland County Hospital. Driver treated and released. Driver of second vehicle not injured.

BURKESVILLE, CUMBERLAND CO., KY - Sgt. Jamie Heller is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at approximately 6:49amCT, 3 miles West of Burkesville, KY on KY 90.

Megan Crafton, age 24, of Burkesville, KY was traveling Eastbound on KY 90 in a 1999 Ford.

Crafton exited a graded curve and attempted to slow for stopped traffic at a Stop sign when she began to lose control of her vehicle. Crafton's vehicle left the Eastbound lane of travel and entered the Westbound lane where she was struck in the right side by a 1999 Ford pickup operated by James B. Kerr, age 27, also of Burkesville, KY.

A passenger in the Crafton vehicle, 6 year old Gracie Hurt of Burkesville was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced deceased at the Cumberland County Hospital.

Sgt. Heller was assisted at the scene by Cumberland County EMS, the State Highway Department, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and Trooper Tony Wells. Crafton was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to the Cumberland County Hospital where she was treated and released.

Kerr was belted at the time of the collision and was not injured.
