Great Wooded South Lexicon III: Finally, warsh rag, wirehouse

Previous Lexicon: Great Wooded South Lexicon II: Gob, passel and more
Next Lexicon: Great Wooded South Lexicon IV

By Billy Joe Fudge, Retired State Forester
Kentucky Division of Forestry

When the idea for publishing a Great Wooded South Lexicon on CM came to me for the reasons given in the first two editions, I decided to list the word or phrase with a "not always complete" definition.

I purposely left out an example of usage so as not to pollute the reader's imaginative gene pool. At least for this edition I am going to continue with this format with only intermittent usage examples when the situation seems to demand it.
  • Warsh rag: A cloth one might use in combination with soap and or water to clean the face and or other body parts

  • Eiriel wire: The exterior, front or rear fender mounted, auto radio antenna. Many would consist of no more than a converted metal clothes hanger.

  • Vaper locked: A fuel line having the flow of fuel impeded by trapped air or a person who fails to speak up usually because of intimidation.

  • Dry drizzle: A rain of insufficient intensity to dampen the shirt of one working out in it. This term and definition, although in different words by way of the late, Ordell Fudge.

  • Wirehouse: A place of storage and aging as in Liquor or a place to display and auction as in Tobacco. Wirehouse is so totally ingrained in the Great Wooded South Lexicon because of tobacco and liquor; I had just completely missed it, but was reminded to include it by a contributor.
More local, language, lexicon enlightener's forthcoming as the need comes to our attention and I am thankful for all the help from CM readers and contributors. I am inspired and enlightened daily by CM and all those who make it such a special gathering place. -Billy Joe Fudge
