Poetry by Robert Stone: Shadowtimes

Shadowtimes
- a sonnet for those starting new phases of their lives
Would that our lives were filled with some of all
that we might learn to know each high and low
with only steady rise and easy fall
in shadowtimes that edge both come and go.

Would that our lives were free of doubt and fear
that we might venture onward unrestrained
with mighty shouts and whispered words sincere
in shadowtimes that shrink but are maintained.

Would that our lives were bound in love and hope
that we might keep our upward vision bright
with firm determination holding scope
in shadowtimes that claim like day so night.

Beyond the times when shadows are not cast
are rainbows signing options still are vast.

- Robert Stone, 22 August 2010
