Two new school board member assured

And crowded City Council Race now has a total of 11 candidates, as three more candidates file today: Justin Burris, Anthony Grider, and Harry Randy Middlecamp to join the field of 8 already in the race: Linda Waggener, John Ford, Joe Moore, June Parson, Edwin Taylor, Robert Flowers, Jim Hadley, and Craig Dean.

The deadline for filing has passed, and one new member on the Adair County Board of Education is virtually elected. Rebecca Turner, a daughter in law of PVA Candidate Paul Turner, is the only candidate in School Division I, in the South end of Adair County. She is running for the seat being vacated by Greg Willis, who is running as an independent for the Third District Magisterial seat now held by Sammy Baker, who is the Republican nominee and the incumbent.


There will be a new face on the board from Division 3. The seat given up by Board Chairman Chris Watts is being contested by Joseph Payne and Jackie Turner, a brother of PVA candidate Paul Turner.

Three candidates, Justin Burris, Anthony Grider, and Harry Randy Middlecamp filed for Columbia City Council today.

That 11-candidate field now includes, by day of filing:
  1. Linda Waggener, filed December 29, 2009
  2. John Ford, filed January 9, 2010
  3. Joe Moore, , filed January 21, 2010
  4. June Parson, filed August 2, 2010
  5. Edwin Taylor, filed August 5, 2010
  6. Robert Flowers, August 6, 2010
  7. Jim Hadley, August 6, 2010
  8. Craig Dean, August 9, 2010
  9. Justin Burris, August 10, 2010
  10. Anthony Grider, August 10, 2010
  11. Harry Randy Middlecamp, August 10, 2010
The Council will be made up of the six top vote getters.

The candidates for Mayor of the City of Columbia are Councillor Charles Grimsley and former Chief of Police Mark D. Harris.
