Lindsey Wilson Football 99 days from kickoff By Dan White News from Lindsey Wilson Sports Information COLUMBIA, KY - Spring practice is in the books, construction on the new football stadium adjacent to the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway is nearing completion and the return of football at Lindsey Wilson College is exactly 99 days away. While there were more than 600 days until kickoff when head coach Chris Oliver was hired, the season opener against Notre Dame (Ohio) College on Sept. 4, 2010 is looming larger than ever. "The clock seems to be ticking faster and faster each day," admitted Oliver. "Our student-athletes are on summer break, the recruiting for this incoming class is coming to a close and our coaching staff has been finalized. "Reporting day for fall camp is just around the corner and our players and coaches are looking forward to getting to work on the 2010 campaign." The team's first full schedule of games after a 75-year hiatus from the gridiron was released in January. Including the season-opener against Notre Dame, the Blue Raiders play six home contests in 2010. Starting in late March, Lindsey Wilson hit the field for its first spring practice under the new regime. Prior to those on-field preparations, the coaching staff put together a 26-member class for national signing day on February 3. Since then, a total of 101 student-athletes have cast their lot to join the Blue Raiders, giving the coaches even more enthusiasm to get the players back on campus and prepare for Notre Dame. "I believe our staff has done a nice job of working towards September 4 and handling the multitude of tasks that are associated with starting a college football program," said Oliver. "Moving past the 100-day mark is a great milestone in the countdown to the return of Blue Raider football." This story was posted on 2010-05-28 04:05:22
