Surprising Blue Raider softball season ends - on one pitch

'With no departing seniors, Lindsey Wilson will likely be among the favorites to win the MSC Championship again in 2011 and make another run at the NAIA National Championship.' -DAN WHITE
'Simon Fraser University just beat Concordia (OR) University 7-6 in 12 innings. Concordia had the bases loaded with two outs, but their final batter struck out swinging to end the game -- and the Blue Raiders' season. So LWC basically came within a pitch of advancing to the Final 8. Still, a very good season for a rookie college softball coach (Ashley McCool)' -DUANE BONIFER at 8:35pmCT, May 24, 2010

News from Lindsey Wilson Sports Information

DECATUR, AL - Concordia (OR) University lasted 13 innings against Simon Fraser (BC) University, but the Cavs came up just short in a 7-5 loss against the Clan who punched their ticket to the eight-team double elimination bracket at the NAIA National Championship with a 3-0 record in pool play.

The Blue Raiders - making their first appearance at the national championship - finished with a 2-1 record in pool play, while Concordia finished 2-1 as well and Bellevue (NE) University finished 0-3.

Lindsey Wilson finishes the season with a 47-14 record and 22-6 mark in Mid-South Conference play. The Blue Raiders won their first MSC Regular-Season title and third conference tournament championship.

From March 20 to April 3, Lindsey Wilson put together a 15-game winning streak, the longest of the season.

Anyibell Ramirez - who finished with a 24-8 record - ranks third in the nation in strikeouts with 349 and holds a 1.08 ERA. The strikeout total and ERA for the junior are both single-season records for the Blue Raiders.

Ramirez wasn't alone with pitching success as junior Morgan Paschall finished with a 20-5 record and a 1.34 ERA with 206 strikeouts.

Junior catcher Ally Goniea led the team in batting average with a .387 mark and led the team in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 53. Sophomore shortstop Jamie Williams closed the season with a .370 batting average with 16 RBIs and two home runs.

Ashley McCool made a strong impression on coaches around the MSC as she was voted the conference's coach of the year by her peers after leading the Blue Raiders to their first national tournament in her first season as head coach.

With no departing seniors, Lindsey Wilson will likely be among the favorites to win the MSC Championship again in 2011 and make another run at the NAIA National Championship.
