CU lands NCAA D-I point guard Monie Hudson Bowling Green, KY native will play his final year of eligibility with Campbellsville University Tigers Click on headline for story plus photo(s) By Chris Megginson News from Campbellsville Sports Information CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University men's basketball announced its first transfer Thursday for 2010-2011. University of Evansville reserve point guard Monie Hudson is leaving the Aces after just one season to join the Tigers' program for his final year of eligibility. Hudson, a native of Bowling Green, KY, was an All-Region guard at Southeastern Illinois College, where he helped lead the team to a 52-12 record over two seasons. In 2008, Hudson was named the Region 24 Player of the Year as he averaged 14.4 points per game and helped lead SIC (28-7) to the national quarterfinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Tournament. He was named an All-Region player again in 2009 after averaging 12.3 points and 4.6 assists as a sophomore. He shot 40 percent from 3-point range. "We bring into our program an experienced point guard, a guy that has played at the highest level in junior college and in one of the most underrated leagues in Division I in the Missouri Valley Conference. He's a guy that brings success with him," CU head coach Keith Adkins said. Hudson is leaving Evansville after averaging only 6.7 minutes per game his junior season. "He got into a little bit of a tough situation at Evansville. I think he got into a system that really didn't fit his style of play. Hopefully we can bring back the fun for him in the basketball side and hopefully he can give us the type of production that T.J. Bishop did this year as a one-year point guard. He's a big, physical point guard who can break you down off the dribble, he's a good defender, and most importantly we like the systems and places he comes from." Hudson, who stands at 6-foot, 185 pounds, is a 2007 graduate of Warren Central High School in Bowling Green, KY. During his time with the Dragons, he was named All-District, All-Region and was a member of the Sweet 16 Tournament team, helping Warren Central to the state quarterfinals. Hudson is the first transfer for CU and the fourth overall sign for 2010-2011 in a class that includes Kentucky high school stars Cameron Hall (Glasgow), Jeremiah Johnson (Holmes) and Bryton Taylor (Campbellsville). "We're excited to have him in the program. We expect him to step in and be our point guard for a year, and now with Cameron Hall coming in as a freshman and Shawn Savage being a combo one and two, we're excited about that spot looking at next year," Adkins said. Campbellsville (28-6) is coming off a regular season championship in the Mid-South Conference and its eighth NAIA National Tournament appearance in program history.
