CU dominates St. Catharine, 14-4, in MSC tournament

No. 1 seed Tigers in action today in Campbellsville vs. No. 2 seed RIo Grande

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY - Top-seed and host Campbellsville University scored four runs in three different innings en route to a 14-4 win over No. 4-seed St. Catharine College today in the MSC Tournament at Tiger Field.

Campbellsville advances to Friday's winner's bracket game with No. 2-seed University of Rio Grande. Rio Grande advanced after beating Georgetown College 7-2 earlier today. St. Catharine faces Georgetown in an elimination game in tonight's final game at Tiger Field, 104 Tiger Way, Campbellsville, KY.



Every Campbellsville player recorded at least one hit as the Tiger (38-18) offense pounded out 15 hits in the win.Campbellsville's Luke Gadow was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a run and a RBI while Logan Smith and Zac Townsend combined for three hits , including a pair of home runs, and six RBIs.

Campbellsville starting pitcher Jared Lunardi and reliever Alex Tolmachoff combined to allow four runs on 11 hits while striking out 10 St. Catharine batters. The 10 strikeouts set a single-season team strikeout record for the Tigers.

Townsend and Smith each homered in the Tigers' four-run third inning to give Campbellsville the early 4-0 lead.

St. Catharine (36-21) cut the Campbellsville lead in half with a pair of runs in the top of fifth. St. Catharine's Kaleb Henry doubled home the Patriots first run and later scored on Brian Jones' RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-2. Henry finished the game 2-for-5 at the plate with a RBI.

Leading 5-3, Campbellsville scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-3 lead as Townsend and third baseman Craig Edwards each drove in two runs in the inning.

The Tigers ended the game in the eighth inning with their third four-run inning of the game.

Campbellsville's Jameel Ziadeh bases loaded single proved to be the walk-off hit as a pair of Tigers scored to give CU the 14-4 mercy rule win.
