A Great Tradition, a Memorable Quote,
an unforgettable Adair Countian


A plaque in the lobby of the Adair Annex, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY, remembers Wm. L "Daddy Bill" Walker, the founder of one of Columbia's longest running traditions, "Buy, Swap, Sell & Trade," held each Labor Day.

is a well-remember quote of one of Columbia's all time outstanding volunteers, Wm. "Daddy Bill" Walker, a quote recalled by Mary Allender, Adair 911 Coordinator, who says that Bill Walker's assessment several decades ago is even more true today.

Every Labor Day his memory comes to mind among so many other of his legacies, as the founder of "Buy, Swap, Sell &Trade" Day.



The event is coming up, grander than ever, on September 4, 5, and 7th, with BSS&T, now augmented by a county wide, three day yard sale.

Buy, Swap, Sell & Trade event, sponsored by the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, will be Labor Day, from 7:00am to 4:00pmCT, Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009, on the Public Square in Columbia, KY.

Arts, crafts, antiques, and food vendor are welcome on a "First Come, First Serve," basis, according to Charles Grimsley, chairman of the event.

Outdoor display spots, 15 ft. wide, are available for a fee. Limited spots with Electricity available for an extra fee. Exhibitors are asked to bring their own tables and chairs.

Three days for County Wide Yard Sale

The highly successful City Wide Yard sale has been expanded to the entire county and will be held on Friday, September 4, Saturday, September 5, and Monday, Labor Day, September 7, 2009.

Judge Ann Melton has requested that the seven Adair County Magistrates identify at least two locations in their districts where community yard sales can be held. The county solid wasted department will help with clean up at the spots, she said. Persons with location which might be sites are asked to call the County Judge Executive's office at (270) 384-4760 or get in contact with the Magistrates in their Districts, who are: Danny Goodin (1), Wid Harris (2), Sammy Baker (3), Perry Reeder (4), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Joe Rogers (6) and Terry Hadley (7).
