Ryan Harris challenges others to follow Dr. Huff's example

Thanks Dr. Huff and, Ryan Harris says, "Sports should be for anyone who wants to play, whether they are rich or poor," and challenges other business leaders to sponsor kids who want to play, but family budgets may not be flexible enough to squeeze out the registration fee

By Ryan Harris, AC Youth Football Secretary

I would like to personally thank Dr. Patrick Huff for volunteering to sponsor a child so that he/she will be able to participate in youth football. So often times we only think about our own children and forget about others' who may not be able to afford to put their children in little league sports.

Little league sports should not be available to only those who can afford it, but should be for any child who wants to play. As a board member of Adair County's youth football program, I know that this is not possible, because it costs a great deal of money to run a youth sports program, and to not charge a registration fee would bankrupt any program.

Where community needs to get involved

However, this is where I believe the community should get involved. If all businesses would sponsor a child who could not afford to play, I believe that every child who wanted to play, could.

And this doesn't have to go just for youth football. It could be for little league baseball or basketball as well. It is a proven fact that children who participate in sports are less likely to get into trouble as an adult.

How would you feel knowing that you made that kind of difference in the life of a child?

Here is the challenge

I want to challenge all community businesses as well as any individual to sponsor a child for a youth sports program. Most programs cost around $40.00. If you would like to sponsor a child for youth football, you may contact me at (270) 634-1458 or email me at adairyouthfootball@yahoo.com .Or, if you know a child who wants to play, but can't afford the fee, please contact me with the child's name and phone number. If we don't have a sponsor for them, I will do everything I can to find them one.
