'It is inhumane not to provide trees in parking lots,' writer says

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

I appreciated your comment of awareness of increased heat when there is a large expanse of blacktop. Some cities have mandated trees be planted in parking lots to provide a large percentage of shade in the time frame of 15 years.

I have read that the city and county have approved funds for blacktopping a lot behind a senior citizens center. I do not know if small islands of trees are planned, but I think it is inhumane to not provide trees in parking lots. Tree islands give physical benefits as well as psychological benefits. Can you do anything about getting a few tree islands established in this lot that is soon to be paved?

s/Vonnie Kolbenschlag

Thanks. More and more people are in agreement with you. My hope is that people will be given higher priority. -EW
