Scenic Taylor Co, KY: Old Green River Bridge

2009-03-06 - Taylor Co., KY - Photo by Kristy Keene. KRISTY KEENE took this photo recently of the Bridge over Green River on Tebb's Bend Road, once part of main road between Columbia and Campbellsville, KY. The span accommodates one lane of traffic at a time. Just a few decades ago, huge Greyhound passenger busses crossed the bridge several times a day. The roads most famous location, today, may be the Tebb's Bend Monument. In year's past, that honor may have belonged to Hi-Point, just south of this location.
(ADV) For one of Adair County's biggest collection of Photos from the Past, visit Ol' Joe's B&B Que on Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY. Over 100 old photos have been added to the restaurant's gallery for the weekend opening of the barbecue store on Friday, March 6, and Saturday, March 7, 2009. Phone (270) 384-2360. MENU.

(ADV) Historic mass hanging at Ol Joe's B&B Que

2009-03-06 - North KY 55, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The Mass Hanging of Over 100 historic photographs at Ol' Joe's B&B Que, the famous barbecue restaurant north of Russell Creek in Columbia, KY. The photo above is the first one in Ol' Joe's Knifley heritage wall, appropriately, along with Cane Valley scenes, on the north wall. The photo is of Winfrey Beard, Ralph Corbin, Edgar Collins, Lon Pendleton, Matt Bottoms, Walter Bowen Arden Sheriff, Gobel Wheeler, Acey Corbin, and Jene Watson. The old pictures are grouped. Among the different groupings are Old Columbia, Barbee Family pictures, outlaws Joe Lynn grew up with, lumbering, and, especially, trucking and transportation. Tables have been re-arranged to make for easy viewing. The public is invited to see the latest hangings this weekend, Friday, March 6, 2009, and Saturday, March 7, 2009 and to enjoy the incomparable Ol' Joe's Barbecue, buy a few bottles of sauce, and take part in the storytelling (even if you're here just to listen; there's always somebody willing to take the floor). Phone (270) 384-2360. MENU.

(ADV) Rib perfection-It's not the easy way; it's the Ol' Joe's Way

2009-03-06 - Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by CM Advertising Dept..
IF YOU WONDER ABOUT ALL THE TRAFFIC to Ol' Joe's B&B Que today, there are a lot of reasons. One, the six week barbecue famine is over. Two, cultured folks are going to see Ol' Joe's Gallery of Old Photos, a museum of Adair County History. But the biggest reason is: The Ribs. The Ribs and the Sauce. To be no more modest than honesty allows, they are as close to Rib Perfection as we'll get on this side of the River Jordan or Russell Creek. What you see the the end of a long, slow process, that started with handpicking every rack of ribs which passed the exacting standards of Ol' Joe's. It continued with the the careful watching (but not opening) the smokers until the ribs are just right, and it ends with the ribs coming out of the grill and getting a coating of Ol' Joe's Original Sauce right before the ribs are rushed, hot, tender, moist and tasty to your tableside. You're going to say it's the best you ever ate. Ol' Joe's is trying to keep up with rush. But to make sure you aren't left out, call ahead, (270) 384-2360, and reserve yours now. Ol' Joe's B&B QUE is cooking Friday & Saturday, March 6 and 7, 2009, at Campbellsville RD, Columbia, KY, just north of the Russell Creek Bridge. MENU.
