Sixth District constable attends domestic violence training

Constable Jason Rector, and many other Kentucky Constables, attended Domestic Violence: Understanding and Responding to Survivors of Violence training held in Frankfort through the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association on Saturday, July 21, 2007.

Reporting from the meeting, the Sixth Adair County District Constable writes:

"During this training the Kentucky Revised Statute for Domestic Violence was defined; informational statistics given such as in fiscal year 2003, 26,823 EPOs and 13,897 DVOs were issued by Kentucky Courts and is ever increasing today.

"Domestic Violence is about Power and Control and can include people from a rural area, town or big city that may be isolated or may have an active community life.

"Domestic Violence is a choice and a crime.

"Leaving a violent relationship is the most dangerous time, while it is not as simple as leaving, it is about escaping.

"Know your community resources such as Shelter and Rape Crisis Numbers, Number of local police, sheriff, constable, where/how to get a protective order, along with other community resources to help break down the barriers for battered victims.

"For more information on Domestic Violence Programs in Kentucky check out http://www.kdva.org or talk with your local law enforcement agencies. For more information on Constables, feel free to check out Jason Rector Website."
