What will they think of next? Astounding moment in Adair CO life

Adair Countians have always been progressives, eager to embrace advances in science, philosophy, theological thought, and market innovations.

Flora Grider Denny, of Greater Sano and "Bargerstucky" (Bargersville), Indiana, recalls an experience in her family history which illustrates how enthusiastically the ancient ones became early adopters.

It was in the early 1900s, she thinks. Her grandfather, Junie Creal Shepherd, made a trip to town--Russell Springs, she thinks--to get store-bought provisions.

When he returned he was barely able to contain his excitement. "Hannah!" he hollered, "come look what they're doing now!" When she got to him, he explained, holding up a bag, "They're selling coffee already roasted," he explained.

Then, after some thought, he said, with a delighted amazement at his own prophetic skill, "The next thing you know, they'll be selling it already ground up!"

"Hannah," Mrs. Denny says, was Hannah Bell Brockman Shepherd, her grandmother.
