Fourteen new street lights will make things safer By Vicky Pike The official meeting to kick off a special lighting project was held where they will pe placed, alongside Hwy 61 South/Burkesville Road Friday morning, July 19, 2024. The project has been a long time coming and the 14 lights - 7 on each side of the road - will make night driving and entry into the New Columbia shopping district much safer from near Burger King to near Patricia Trail. Our little community just keeps moving forward and this project is so important to this area, much like the parkway lighting that brought us into the light several years ago. That took a while, too, but good things take time. I was asked to attend by Mayor Pam Hoots since I have been the number one fan for this project. Thanks to her and all that made this happen. Zippy and I will be watching to make sure it all goes well and I'll be checking on whether the poles are all level from all four sides. Godfrey Jackson with Taylor County RECC says that's a must.
