Homeplace on Green River Spring Plow Day is Saturday

From Dan Koger's Public Relations Class at LWC

The historic Homeplace on Green River demonstration farm celebrates spring plowing again this year with its annual Spring Plow Day Craft and Music Festival from 8amCT to 8pmCT this Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 5807 New Columbia Rd., Campbellsville, KY.

Live music will be presented all day, along with country craft exhibits and sales, and demonstrations of such traditional farm skills as furniture making, tin smiting, lard making and log skidding.

"We're trying to capture the sight and feel of farming over the long history of agriculture in the southcentral Kentucky area," said Lyn Stanton, Homeplace on Green River Program Director.

Working farmers and mule breeders will provide horse and mule team plowing demonstrations from 8amCT to 11amCT.

"What better place to do that than at the Homeplace on Green River, a working farm since before the birth of Abraham Lincoln at the start of the 19th century."

Admission is $5 per person or $20 per full car of four or more people. Lots of parking will be available.

Among activities included with admission will be hay rides, tours of the restored 200-year-old Tate House, kiddie barrel train rides, pony rides, a petting farm, and bounce houses. Also, more than 40 craft and food vendors will be on hand, including a booth where visitors can buy colorful house and garden plants. (For a list of vendors, see this earlier CM post: HGR Spring Plow Day is April 20.)

"We want to provide visitors with lots of fun, food and historic farming experiences for everyone during a day on the farm," Stanton said.

Music performances include:
  • Chris Anderson and Friends: 9amCT to 10amCT
  • Roundabout: 10amCT to 11amCT
  • Redwire Bluegrass: NoonCT to 1:30pmCT
  • Earl Bowman: 2:30pmCT to 4:50pmCT
  • The Donovan Howard Trio: 5:30pmCT to 7:30pmCT
