Road trip: Swan Pond Bottom

By Linda Waggener

Heading south on Highway 127 in Russell County, KY, you arrive at Wolf Creek Dam followed by the high overlook just south of the dam.

After enjoying the vast views, looking back over the dam just crossed, and seeing Lake Cumberland and its surrounding hills, you can head down the road as it winds to Swan Pond Bottom. This route allows you you to see the soaring bridges of the new route of U.S. 127.

Land development in this area of Russell County has been going on since the road work first began back before the Pandemic. On this late winter 2024 trip, we saw the work in progress from north to south toward Clinton County. Soon the trees will leaf out and it will be harder to grasp the work in progress.
