Health Dept gives tips for surviving this weather

The Lake Cumberland District Health Department gives tips for surviving the dangerous weather we are experiencing.

Temperatures look to remain very low for several more days. After a brief period above freezing today, temperatures will fall once again as another front is moving in. Tips For Extreme Cold follow:

* Limit outdoor activity as much as possible - including for pets.

* If you do go out, dress in several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight clothing instead of a single heavy layer. Wear water-repellent outer garments, a hat, mittens, and waterproof boots.

* Follow the recommended safety precautions for your space heater, fireplace, or wood stove. Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

* Ensure that your generator or secondary heating system is in a well ventilated space.
