Emily Griffitt Anderson dies at age 49

Emily Griffitt Anderson of Sawmills School Road in Granite Falls, North Carolina, died unexpectedly at age 49.

Funeral services for the Adair County native are scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at her church, Dry Ponds Baptist, 5235 Union Church Road, Granite Falls, NC. The family will receive friends there from 2 to 4 p.m. prior to the service.
Local service at Cane Valley Christian Church

Grissom Funeral Home in Columbia is in charge of the local memorial service which is scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Cane Valley Christian Church.

Bro. Ivan Tucker will officiate at the Cane Valley Christian Church.

The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

In lieu of flowers, her family requests that local donations be sent to either the Humane Society or the Red Cross



Emily Griffitt was born July 8, 1956, in Fayette County, Kentucky to the late Dr. Joseph R. Griffitt and Amanda Waterson Griffitt.

The Griffitts became local residents when her father joined the Adair County Health Department.

She is survived by
  • Her husband, Jerry Anderson of the home

  • A step-son, Matthew Thomas Anderson of the home

  • A sister, Dee Watson and her husband Jerry, of Cane Valley

  • A brother, Dr. Joseph Michael Griffitt of Nicholasville, Kentucky

  • Six nieces and nephews: Michelle Powell, Joe Watson, Alison Watson, Joseph Griffitt, Mischa Tirabasso, and Jessica Griffitt

  • And two great nieces and two great nephews
She leaves many friends who remember her fondly as a classmate at Adair County High School and as a resident of the Cane Valley community.

Dr. Rick Crouse, Rev. Myron Davis, and Rev. Paul Dula will officiate at the service. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Dry Ponds Baptist Church Building Fund, 5235 Union Church Rd., Granite Falls, NC 28630.
