Soccer: LWC women settle for draw with Campbellsville For the first time in the all-time series with Campbellsville the Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team didn't come away with a win against their highway 55 foe after fighting to a 2-2 draw on senior night. The draw with the Tigers moves the Blue Raiders to 29-0-1 all-time in the Battle of Highway 55. Lindsey Wilson trailed twice in the contest, at 1-0 early in the second half and then 2-1 late in the second but found a way to level the score both times. Campbellsville struck first in the 63rd minute but LWC managed a goal of their own just under three minutes later. Britt Tonis sent a midfield free kick into the 18. After deflecting off multiple players the ball found its way to the foot of a waiting Silvia Marchesi just outside the penalty area. Marchesi took one touch before finishing in the upper left corner of the goal. The Tigers struck again in the 79th minute and this time it took the Blue Raiders just four minutes to level the score at 2-2. Tonis took the corner kick, sending a high curving ball far post, which found the head of a waiting Rayssa de Souza who finished in the lower left corner. The first half was an even affair with Campbellsville outshooting the Blue Raiders 8-5. Lindsey Wilson produced the best scoring chances in the half both coming early in the action. Lindsey Wilson snuck a ball through early in the fourth minute which was blasted by Alicia Thoresen, but it was CU keeper Rirei Sasaki who made a huge save. A CU foul put LWC with a free kick right outside of the box in the 22nd minute. Sasaki once stole the show as she made a diving save on the Tonis curving free kick. The Blue Raiders and the Tigers each finished with 17 shots while LWC managed five more shots on goal at 12-7. With the result, the Blue Raiders are the No. 3-seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Lindsey Wilson will face the winner of No. 6-seeded Thomas More (KY) and No. 11-seed Pikeville (KY) who battle on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders quarterfinal matchup will take on Friday, Nov. 4, at a time to be determined. This story was posted on 2022-10-28 06:38:25
