160th Anniversary of the Battle of Perryville From Anita Hatchett Frankfort, KY - Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site will host a national Civil War reenactment for the 160th Anniversary of the Battle of Perryville, bringing people from all over the United States to the commonwealth. The commemoration has been set for Oct. 8-9, 2022, in Boyle County. The two-day event will include battlefield tours, Chautauqua performances, battle reenactments, lectures, museum exhibits, educational programs, food and other vendors. Perryville is the site of the largest Civil War battle in Kentucky, which occurred in October 1862 and which some historians point to as a turning point in the Civil War. Each year, the battle is commemorated with special events during the first weekend in October. Tickets can be purchased online for a discounted rate at $15 for adults, $10 for veterans, military and seniors, and $10 for children ages 7-12. There will be a $5 increase for general admission prices purchased at the gate. The battlefield now encompasses more than 1,200 acres, and the grounds include nineteen miles of historical hiking trails with forty-seven interpretive markers. As a result of these efforts, Perryville is generally regarded as one of the best-interpreted Civil War battlefields in the United States. The American Battlefield Trust recently acknowledged Perryville as the most intact/pristine of any major conflict of the Civil War. This story was posted on 2022-09-12 07:23:08
