School Board officially accepts gift of Columbian Theater

Dr. Ben Arnold made his gift of the Columbian Theater official in a signing moment at Thursday's Adair County School Board meeting. Last November the property was leased to the schools for one dollar toward the possibility of the schools ultimately becoming the beneficiary of the historic property at 126 Public Square.

He said, "Every kid in school and at Lindsey Wilson will be the winners here and I'm proud to be a part of it. The many times I've come around the square and seen it dark has hurt my heart - you all are going to turn those lights back on and create great performances there." He said he was very proud to be working with Superintendent Pam Stephens and Doug Beard who will manage operations.

This gift will give Adair County public school students opportunities to be in the spotlight, developing presentation skills and confidence that will carry them into all future careers.

Grant monies will be sought to operate the theatre. The Columbian Theater goal will first be used for Adair County public school students, then Lindsey Wilson College students and then the community and surrounding counties who may need to rent the Theater.
