CU to present Dr. Johnie Dean in concert April 22

Campbellsville, KY - Dr. Johnie Dean, arranger/assistant director of The Lexington Singers, will perform a free concert at Campbellsville University at 6pmET on Friday, April 22, 2022, in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, KY.

Dean, who received his Bachelor of Music degree in Church Music and Voice in 1977 from Campbellsville College, has served as a college/university administration official for the past 17 years and serves as director of non-traditional academic programs at Asbury University.

Previously, he worked as a church music administrator and worship leader. He received his Doctorate in Music from the University of Kentucky and his Master's degree in Music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

His doctorate is in music composition; and his master's degree is in church music, piano and composition.

Dean is the arranger/orchestrator for the University of Kentucky's annual productions: Grand Night for Singing and the Alltech Celebration of Song (annual international Christmas program) in Lexington, Ky.

He is a composer/arranger/orchestrator for other groups, schools and universities across the United States as well as across the globe.

A Kentucky native, Dean has been composing and arranging music over 40 years and has had more than 200 published works. His published work, The Pirates of Penzance Medley, National Music Publishers, was performed by the Florida All-State High School TTBB Chorus in 2012 and by the Texas All-State Men's High School TTBB Choir in 2013.

Other published works include three piano books published by FJH Music Publishing Company in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., a solo piano CD of his arrangements titled I Need Thee Every Hour and numbers included on The American Spiritual Ensemble's Christmas CD.

Dean arranged and orchestrated nearly all the music for the Kentucky Governor's Mansion Centennial Celebration on Sept. 20, 2014. Kentucky Educational Television (KET) filmed the program and broadcast the event in the 2014-15 season.

UK's 25th Anniversary Production of "It's a Grand Night for Singing" in 2017 was recorded and broadcast by KET and nearly the entire show was arranged and orchestrated by Dean. The show won two regional Emmys in 2018.

Dean is a winner of numerous awards in both writing and performing music, with over 200 works published for piano.

Dean also serves past-time at Immanuel Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky. He and his wife, Mindy, have two daughters (both educators) and four grandchildren.
