By Joan C. McKinney

Campbellsville, KY - Campbellsville University's Family Weekend on October 29 and October 30, 2021, allows families to join their student on the main campus for a time of fun and reflection.

"We are excited to finally be able to welcome families back to campus!" Ashley Fox, director of alumni relations, said.

"This year's Family Weekend is a little later in the year than normal, but we wanted to give students a chance to really get back into the groove of campus life before bringing families back to visit," Fox said.

The plaza at the new Athletic Fieldhouse on the main campus will be dedicated at 11:30amET Saturday, October 30 as the Don and June Bishop Plaza.

In his 29 years of leading the athletics department, Bishop was instrumental in starting and reinstating multiple programs. Campbellsville started men's and women's programs for soccer, swimming and diving and oversaw the reinstatement of football following a 50-year absence as well as the reinstatement of cross country.

Bishop started the golf program in 1969 and served as the coach until 1978. The Tigers won the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Championship in 1974 and 1978, while finishing runner-up in 1976. CU also earned its way to NAIA District 24 champions in 1974 and 1975. In 1975, The Tigers finished the season ranked No. 17.

He also led the men's tennis program to a KIAC championship in 1973.

In addition to his coaching duties, Bishop was instrumental in starting the Athletics Boosters and Big Maroon Club. He also was a leader in establishing the Mid-South Conference in 1996-97 and led Campbellsville to joining the National Christian College Athletic Association prior to his retirement in 1997.

Campbellsville University honored Bishop by naming him the only inductee to the Hall of Fame in 2000.

Bishop provided private swimming lessons to more than 10,000 children, earning him the reputation "a gentle and effective instructor" from their parents.

He was married to June Carol Holman, and he died Dec. 27, 2017. They had two daughters: Robyn Lawless and Susie Pollock.

For a fun night, the Social Club Misfits will be in concert at 8pmET on Friday, Oct. 29 in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.

The Social Club Misfits is a Christian hip-hop duo from Miami, FL. Families of Campbellsville University students are $10 each.

SCM is made up of rappers FERN and Marty Mar. They formed their musical partnership in 2011 and released their first free album, titled "Misfits," Nov. 27, 2012. Their most recent album, "Feared by Hell," was released in October 2020.

Hit singles include: "War Cry" (featuring Tauren Wells), "Tuyo" (featuring Danny Gokey and Jordin Sparks), "Testify" (featuring Crowder), "Dive" (Featuring Beam) and "Courage" (featuring Tree Giants).

"This year's concert of the Social Misfits Club will be a great experience for students and their families to enjoy together," Fox said.

The public is invited. General admission tickets are $15 and $10 for groups of 10 or more. Visit www.campbellsville.edu/socialclubmisfits for more information and to purchase tickets.
