Five LWC athletes garner MSC honors

By Kyle Jackson Five Lindsey Wilson College athletes have received Mid-South Conference honors this week.

Robert Carter of the Lindsey Wilson football team, Maya Caon of the Lindsey Wilson women’s soccer team, Johanna Alcantara and Camryn Rich of the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team, and Zofia Wojcik of the Lindsey Wilson women’s golf team all made Monday's list.


  • Robert Carter of the Lindsey Wilson football team (2-0, 0-0 MSC Bluegrass Division) was named Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The Lilburn, Georgia native recorded three interceptions in Lindsey Wilson’s 34-2 win over No. 4-ranked Keiser (Fla.) on Saturday, a program record. Two of the three interceptions came in redzone, including one in the endzone to help prevent the Seahawks from an offensive score on the day. He is now tied for the NAIA lead in interceptions this season.

  • Maya Caon of the Lindsey Wilson women’s soccer team (1-1, 0-0 MSC) was named Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The Loria, Italy native recorded 11 saves in Lindsey Wilson’s 2-1 win over No. 9-ranked John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday. The freshman allowed only one goal and made seven of her 11 saves in the first half.

  • Johanna Alcantara of the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 MSC) was named Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The Santo Domingo Norte, Dominican Republic native recorded 23 kills in Lindsey Wilson’s upset win over No. 11-ranked Central Methodist (Mo.) over the weekend. The junior recorded 73 kills total in the past five games for the Blue Raiders, scoring double-digit kills in four of five matches.

  • Camryn Rich of the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team (9-2, 2-0 MSC) was named Mid-South Conference Setter of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The Louisville, Kentucky native recorded a career-high 55 assists in Lindsey Wilson’s upset win over No. 11-ranked Central Methodist (Mo.) over the weekend. The junior recorded 155 assists in the past five games for the Blue Raiders, tallying over 25 in all five games and 50 in two matches.

  • Zofia Wojcik of the Lindsey Wilson women’s golf team was named Mid-South Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday. The Warsaw, Poland native finished sixth at The Players Club Invitational last week. She ended the two-day tournament with a 153 (77-76) – five strokes off the winning score. Wojcik carded six birdies over the 5,941-yard, par-72 course.
