Soccer: LWC Women upset No. 9 John Brown

By Austin Hall

The No. 16-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team (1-1, 0-0 MSC) upset undefeated No. 9-ranked John Brown (AR) (3-1, 0-0 SAC) 2-1 Saturday evening.

Both Emma Lindell and Larissa Modesto De Souza struck the back of the net for the Blue Raiders picking up their first goals of the season. Yudaya Nakayenze recorded two assists on the night setting up both goals for the Blue Raiders.

The Golden Eagles massively outshot the Blue Raiders 23-7 in the match with a 12-3 shot on goal mark. Goalkeeper Maya Caon made 12 saves in match with seven of those saves coming in the first half alone.

The scoring began in the 37th minute with a great pass into the box by Yudaya Nakayenze to Emma Lindell for her first goal of the season.

It didn't take long for the Blue Raiders to double their lead in the second half as Nakayenze this time hit a great pass that cut through the defense, finding Larissa Modesto De Souza who put a shot into the lower left corner to score her first career goal with Lindsey Wilson. The Golden Eagles cut the deficit in the 73rd minute after a bad pass back by Sacha Hearn which rolled back into the net. The Blue Raiders held on in the end and got the upset win to bounce back after a disappointing loss to open their season.

Lindsey Wilson returns home for a three game homestand on September 18th to face off against (RV) Georgia Gwinnett. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pmCT.
