Lela Frances Hix, 74, Russell Co., KY native (1947-2021)

Lela Frances Hix of Princeton passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at her home. She was 74 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2pmCT on Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Morgan's Funeral Home, 301 West Washington Street, Princeton, KY, with Bro. David Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation for Lela Frances Hix will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 4pmCT to 8pmCT at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton.


Lela was born on July 6, 1947 in Russell County, KY to the late Rev. A.G. and Okra Bell Dockery Smith. Lela served along side of her husband, Rev Buddy Hix for many years. Lela was a member of Unity General Baptist Church. She loved to serve her church and community especially the children and was over the kitchen at the West Kentucky Youth Camp. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing. Lela loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lela is survived by her son, Barry (Tammy) Hix of Caldwell County; two daughters, Teresa (Jerry) Lee of Clarksville, TN and Shelley (Greg) Riggs of Princeton; one sister, Paula Johnson of Russell Springs, KY; one brother, Jeffery Smith of Russell Springs, KY; eight grandchildren, Jon Riggs, Allie Creekmur, Trevor Hix, Marcie Murrell, Amanda Fletcher, Gregory Riggs Jr., Nelson Jennings and Layten Croft; eleven grandchildren, Kendee Creekmur, Katelyn Creekmur, Bentley Hix, Blakley Hix, Brianna Fletcher, Noah Fletcher, Brodi Grace Fletcher, Kyder Fletcher, Rowan Murrell, Luna Murrell, Lincoln Murrell; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lela is preceded in death by her husband of forty-one years, Rev. Buddy Hix; one son, Larry Hix; one sister, Orvella Brown; two brothers, Donnie Smith and Avery Smith; and one great-grandchild, Gant Fletcher.
