Blinkhorn and Turner named LWC Scholar-Athletes of the Year

By Chris Wells

Callum Blinkhorn and Reagan Turner have been named 2020-21 Lindsey Wilson College Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

The pair were alerted to the honor by phone in place of the college's annual Honors Convocation ceremony.

Blinkhorn and Turner earned the award based on their academic, athletic, and civic achievements throughout their Lindsey Wilson careers.

"Callum and Reagan are outstanding student-athletes that have always been great ambassadors for their sports, their teams, and Lindsey Wilson College," LWC athletics director Willis Pooler said. "They lead by example and consistently demonstrates the good in college athletics.

"Congratulations to Callum and Reagan for earning the highest honor a student-athlete can receive from our athletic department," Pooler added. "They are two of our very best among so many great student-athletes on this campus and they deserve this prestigious honor."

Blinkhorn is a four-year member of the Lindsey Wilson men's golf program. He is a history major and a recreation/tourism & sport management minor with a 3.95 grade point average. He will graduate this May.

The Cheshire, England, native, is a two-time NAIA All-American, including earning first-team honors in 2018-19. He earned PING All-All-America Team honors last season during the COVID-shortened season.

Blinkhorn was named the 2018-19 Mid-South Conference Men's Golfer of the Year and 2017-18 MSC Men's Freshman Golfer of the Year. He has earned all-conference three times -- each time the conference has recognized an all-conference team.

In the classroom, Blinkhorn will earn his second NAIA Scholar-Athlete and third Academic All Mid-South Conference this season. He also earned NAIA-CoSIDA Academic All-America honors twice -- which recognizes excellence in the classroom and the athletic arena.

Blinkhorn helped the Blue Raiders to the MSC regular-season title this season. He currently boasts a 71.7 scoring average, including posting par or better in 48 of his 88-career rounds. Blinkhorn owns nine career wins and 32 top-10s in 36 total events.

Turner is a four-year member of the Lindsey Wilson women's basketball program. She is a human services and counseling major and a psychology minor with a 3.92 grade point average. She will graduate this May.

Turner became the program's all-time leading scorer this season and concludes her career with 2,284 points. She is a three-time NAIA All-American, including first-team All-America Team honors this season.

The Gamaliel, Ky., native is a two-time Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Year, once an MSC Women's Basketball Freshman of the Year, and a four-time first-team all-conference selection, as voted on by the conference coaches.

In the classroom, Turner will earn her second NAIA Scholar-Athlete and third Academic All Mid-South Conference this season. She was named the 2020-21 NAIA Emil S. Liston Award recipient, which recognizes both academic and athletic excellence by a women's basketball student-athlete.

Turner concludes her career ranked in the program's top-10 in scoring, 3-point field goals (162), 3-point field goal percentage (38.4), free throw percentage (83.1), total rebounds (554), assists (378), and steals (213).

Blinkhorn is the first-ever men's golfer to be named Lindsey Wilson College Scholar-Athlete of the Year while Turner is the second women's basketball student-athlete to earn the honor.
