Blue Raiders travel for Border Brawl with Shawnee State

By Joel Snyder

After a successful week-long home stint, the Blue Raiders men and women's basketball teams will venture to the Kentucky-Ohio border for a Mid-South Conference doubleheader with Shawnee State.

Live stats and video will be available. The women will tip off at 4:30pmCT, followed by the men's nightcap at 7pmCT, at Waller Gymnasium, 940 2nd St, Portsmouth, OH. Please see Shawnee State's attendance protocol.

On the women's side, the Bears enter Thursday's contest boasting the second-best scoring offense in the MSC, behind only Campbellsville (KY). No. 9 Shawnee State needed every inch of that offense the last time they took the floor, narrowly defeating Freed-Hardeman (TN) 77-75.

At the head of the pack for the Bears is Brandie Snow. The junior paces the team in points per game (18.2), rebounds per game (7.1), assists per game (3.6), and steals per outing (3.3). Snow has brought plenty of flurries over the conference in recent weeks, including a 35-point effort on New Year's Eve v. Cumberlands (KY). Senior Carson Roney sports an efficient 50.0% field goal percentage to support her 12.1 points per game, while Anyia Pride's 12.3 points per contest and 99 total rebounds round out a healthy trio for the Bears' offense.

Lindsey Wilson has shown very few signs of rust after a nearly two-week hiatus. The Blue Raiders recently improved to 2-0 against NAIA Top-10 teams after handing Thomas More (KY) their first loss of the season on Monday.

The Blue Raiders have experienced a bounty of career-best performances since returning to the hardwood, starting with Bree Glover's 21 rebounds v. Pikeville (KY) on Jan. 14, which was two shy of matching the program record. Two days later, Jordyn Stephens turned in a 21-point effort against Cumberlands (KY), and most recently, Hailey Ison set career-marks with 23 points and 14 rebounds v. Thomas More (KY) earlier this week.

Glover, who has three double-doubles on the season, is averaging an MSC-best 10.2 rebounds per game, as well as 2.2 blocks per game, which ranks second in the conference. Scoring wise, Reagan Turner continues to lead the squad with 22.0 points per contest, including an 84.1% mark from the free throw line where the senior has garnered 24.1% of her 220 total points.

On the men's end, Lindsey Wilson faces a Shawnee State side that is currently amid a 10-game win streak. A streak that began on Dec. 5 against the Blue Raiders.

Lindsey Wilson has, however, won each of the previous four games against the Bears at Shawnee State.

The Blue Raiders are coming off their best 3-point shooting performance (.474) of the season against Cumberlands (KY), and they will look to continue their newly-found shooting spark against the second-best defense in the MSC in Shawnee State.

James Jones leads the Bears with 20.1 points per game and 4.3 assists per outing, while E.J. Onu paces the team in rebounds (8.6) and blocks (4.1) per game.

Elijah Jordan enters Thursday with a Blue Raiders-best 16.2 points per game while shooting 48.0% from the field. Jordan has also logged more minutes (461) than any of his teammates.
