First & Farmers National Bank breaks ground on new location

By Andrea Clue

First & Farmers National Bank held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, to begin the construction of its newest location at 114 Will Walker Road in Columbia, KY. Along with traditional banking services, this new location will have self-serve lockboxes, a Drive-Thru ATM, plenty of customer parking spaces, and a beautiful open-lobby concept.

The new location on Highway 61 is one of the fastest developing areas in all of Adair County. Most of the surrounding retail space in nearby Pinewood Shopping Center has already been filled; just to name a few of the new neighbors: Black Stallion Steakhouse, Magic Market, Happy Cow Cafe, Luttrell Staffing Group, Family Medical Centers, and 3trees Church. The new location is also directly across from Walmart, is in close proximity to The Pines at Lindsey Wilson golf course, and is near the exit for the Cumberland Parkway.

Ann Martin, Columbia Market President, conducted the program and extended her appreciation to all those whose hard work made this day possible. During the small, socially-distanced ceremony, she spoke about the rich history of the bank in the local community and the exciting future ahead.

"It was in 1903 that Adair County was first introduced to First National Bank of Columbia. One hundred and seventeen years later, after a merge in 2008 to become First & Farmers National Bank, we still take great pride in offering customers a variety of flexible and convenient banking services, " said Martin.

The new building was designed by Benton Fudge of South Central Designs, in cooperation with Joe Watson of American Engineers, Inc. Passersby will soon be able to observe dirt being moved and walls going up as Branscum Construction begins the project, working with as many local subcontractors as possible. The new banking home is projected to be complete in the summer of 2021.

FFNB President & CEO Terry Pugh addressed the crowd saying, "Today marks another cornerstone in the continuing history of First & Farmers National Bank. I want to thank Ann Martin and Doug Sapp for their leadership and guidance with our building committee. We believe the future is bright in Columbia and Adair County and we look forward to sharing in that future with you. As you can imagine, we are excited about this project and I know our staff wishes today was the ribbon-cutting ceremony and not the groundbreaking!"

First & Farmers National Bank, Inc. operates 11 banking locations in Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, and Pulaski counties.
