Hazardous waste removed from Adair by EEI team

By Bridget Compton
Adair County Solid Waste Coordinator

We are very fortunate to have received the grant that allows us to work with EEI (Environmental Enterprise, Inc) from Cincinnati. I can confidently say this team takes hazardous waste out of our community, repurpose and dispose of it efficiently and safely.

I cannot brag enough on this team they are educated and organized and we always have a successful event. They travel all over the US doing these events and most of the oil collected is repurposed. They have had many surprising experiences.

Not here, but at one collection they report having received a barrel of chemicals with a human head in it that was sent to the coroner for further inspection. It turned out to be a really good movie prop.

They have seen a little bit of everything. Some have sustained injuries from mixed chemicals where people have taken bleach bottles and poured oils in them which then turn into toxic damaging fumes, and some can even explode.

This team has had to go onto Meth Lab sites and dispose of the chemicals safely. They have received grenades and all type of explosives for which they have had to call in the bomb squad. They are always a pleasure to work with and really know what they are doing.
