City of Columbia Mayor's Report - July, 2020

Great news with the planning and zoning approval of the plans for the new Dairy Queen on Jamestown Street in Columbia. We look forward to them being a part of our community.

Would like to give a shout-out to Adam Montgomery, Shane Gaskins, and Craig Lasley, for their support and helping this month with other departments.

Continuing to mow all parks areas. Mike Watson has started his research on genealogy artifacts at the new park on Burkesville Street. Representatives of the genealogical organizations from Taylor and Green counties are assisting in this effort.



Working on a possible funding for COVID19 for extra overtime required.

Dairy Queen is in-process. Planning and Zoning approved the plans this month. They are tentatively looking at October 21 as a scheduled completion time.

Demolition will be starting on the new Cookout. We are looking forward to having them in our community.

Parks and Recreation are sanitizing all city park areas periodically. The Little League Park, Roadside Park, City Park, and the area beside city hall.

Some areas have been mowed and weed-eated during the month.

Preparing for the new gas line construction. Signing of documents scheduled last week of July.

We did a survey for applications for a possible new manufacturing company. Between 300-400 applications were received.

All rose bushes have been purchased at the Trabue Russell House. Over 30 bushes representing in honor of and/or in memory of. We urge each of you to visit the Trabue Russell House.

Farm2Furniture built a bench and flower pots from old wood from our community. Logs were over 100 years old. It has been placed in front of what is known as the previous Lerman's Building.

We have placed new curbing for parking at the city park at the fairgrounds. Three of the curbs will be placed at the Trabue Russell House. Donated by Cookout Restaurant.

Around fifteen loads of brush were completed during the month.

Several limbs trimmed from right-of-ways. Center Street, Rice Addition, Appleby Drive, etc.

Fifty two letters were written since June 1 for nuisance(s). Some have been cleaned up. Yards, rundown buildings, etc.

Pressure-washed at Fairgrounds.

Due to the inclement weather and flash flooding, we had to work on several areas for ditches, limbs, and gravel issues. (Thank you Roger and Craig).

The tree at the Little League Park in the back was removed this month with the assistance of the Taylor County RECC. Thank you Godfrey.

Godfrey Jackson, our chaplain for the police department, has started a weekly devotional.

The regulator stations for gas have been mowed.
