Bill Calhoun, 78, World War II veteran

Bill Calhoun, 78, 281 Otha Bryant Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Monday, December 15, 2003, at 8:26 p.m., at Summit Manor Nursing Home in Columbia.

Public visitation will be after 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 17, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.


He had served in World War II as an infantryman. Mr. Calhoun was a member of the Columbia Christian Church and had retired from Fireston Tire & Rubber Company.

He was the son of the late John W. and Sylvia New Calhoun of Pulaski County, KY.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Akin Calhoun, Columbia, KY, and by the following:
  • One son, Greg Calhoun, and his wife Jenifer, Jamestown, NC
  • One daugher, Kibby Calhoun, New Castle, IN
  • One brother, Art Calhoun, Somerset, KY
  • One sister, Violet Claycomb, Somerset, KY
  • Three grandchildren, Patricia Ellen Gilbert, Christina Aris Calhoun, and Douglas Austin Calhoun
  • One great grandchild, Mary Ellen Gilbert
A private funeral service will be Thursday, December 18, with Bro. Terry White and Bro. Murrell Crockett officiating.

Burial will follow in Haven Hill Cemetery with military honors by local VFW Post 6097.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to to the Columbia Christian Church Building. Donations may be made at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
