Adair Co. Sheriff's Office COVID-19 precedures

By Sheriff Josh Brockman
Adair County Sheriff's Office

The Adair County Sheriff's Office is taking preventative measures to reduce potential spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in Adair County. These measures will help to ensure police services to the residents of Adair County throughout this time. We must strive to take steps to protect our staff, so that we can continue to serve and protect our community.

Most of our staff is in the low risk category as far as serious health risk from virus due to age of workforce. However, we are at high risk as carriers due to the amount of contact we have with the public. In addition, we have a lot of contact with the elderly who are at high risk.

Please be aware of the following:

  • We are asking that if you haven't paid your taxes, please consider mailing them to the Adair County Sheriff's Office, 424 Public Square, Columbia, KY 42728.

  • If you have applied for your renewal for your carried concealed license and your current license is not expired yet, please wait to come in and pick up your new license for 2-3 weeks.

  • If you need to file a complaint and had planned on coming into the Sheriff's Office in person please consider calling and asking to speak to with a deputy by phone instead.

  • If you call 911 to file a non-emergency complaint that does not require a deputy to respond, please consider asking the 911 dispatcher to just have the deputy call you to file the report. We will still respond at your request. I stress that this does NOT apply to any emergency call.

  • When a deputy responds to your home for a response, please step outside and talk to him to keep them from having to come into your home and allowing them to follow social distancing protocols of 6 feet.

  • Deputies are sanitizing their patrol vehicles frequently during assigned shifts.

  • Additional cleaning precautions in the Sheriff's Office have already been implemented.

  • During the next 2 weeks we will stop service of civil papers with the exception of Emergency Protection Orders, Casey's Law petitions, and time-sensitive papers.

  • Transports of inmates from other counties to Adair County Jail will be authorized on a case-by-case basis.

  • Traffic laws will still be enforced for offenses of excessive speed, DUI and reckless driving. Offense that are non-moving violations will be enforced at Deputies' discretion, with public safety in mind.

  • Offenses that deputies can cite for will be cited for court with dates 30-45 days out instead of the standard 2 weeks.
We are in constant contact with Emergency Management Director Mike Keltner, County Judge Executive Gale Cowan, and Governor Beshear's office, and we want to assure everyone we are doing our part in this time and we will strive to provide uninterrupted services to our county.

Thank you, Sheriff Josh Brockman
