Epperson tosses career game for LWC Softball

By Brady Budke

Hannah Epperson tossed a career game today at Marilyn D. Sparks Park helping the Lindsey Wilson softball team sweep Union (KY) in a non-conference doubleheader. Lindsey Wilson took game one over the Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. Game two was a different story, as LWC rolled out a 6-1 victory.

In the 1-0 game one victory, Epperson went the full seven innings from the center circle throwing 101 pitches allowing just three hits while striking out her career-high of 11 batters. Epperson evaporates her old career-high of nine strikeouts which she accomplished last season against Georgetown (KY) on April 6th.

GAME ONE: Lindsey Wilson 1 | Union 0
Epperson rose as the hero in game one with her 11 punch outs, but the game was won in the fourth inning by a lone LWC hit.

With the game moving as a strong defensive stalemate into the bottom half of the fourth, Lexi Isable stepped up and belted a solo homerun on a full count over the left field wall to give Lindsey Wilson the only run it needed to secure the victory.

Union recorded three hits in the contest compared to the Blue Raiders two, but still fell victim to defeat. The two hit game is the lowest amount LWC has produced as a team this season.

GAME TWO: Lindsey Wilson 6 | Union 1
The second game of the doubleheader saw Lindsey Wilson jump out early on top of the visiting Bulldogs. The scoring began with Makea-Al Kaluau launching out a solo home run over the center field wall on the first pitch of the at-bat, her eighth home run of the year. Two batters later, Breanna Clark drove her first home run of the season over the left field wall on the first pitch, giving Lindsey Wilson a quick 2-0 lead.

The LWC scoring picked back up in the third inning when Clark notched her second RBI of the day on a single to right field that scored Sam Sims from third. With the bases juiced after the Clark hit, Faith Harris drew a five pitch walk which crossed another Lindsey Wilson run. The Blue Raiders tallied another run in the inning when Jaydee Boursaw successfully hit a sacrifice fly to right field which pushed things to 5-0.

Despite answering in the fourth inning with a run on an RBI groundout, Union couldn't stop Lindsey Wilson from pushing another run across the plate. In the bottom half of the sixth, Desiree Chang crushed a ball to center field for an RBI double to secure up the eventual 6-1 victory.

Abby Whelan earned the start from the center circle for LWC, going four complete innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out two. Annabelle Ramirez stepped in for relief and put on a show from the mound, going three complete innings while allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out seven in her third recorded win of the season.

Lindsey Wilson returns to Marilyn D. Sparks Park on Friday and Saturday to face Thomas More (Ky.) in the first Mid-South Conference showdown of the season. Both days will feature doubleheader matchups, with the first game on Friday beginning at 4pmCT and the first game on Saturday beginning at NoonCT.
